ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the formation of a judicial commission to the the 2014 Army Public School (APS) carnage in Peshawar in which 131 school children and 10 others were killed.
The commission will be formed by the Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC) and will be led by a senior judge. The commission has been given six weeks to submit the report on the matter.
The Chief Justice of Pakistan had taken suo motu notice on the matter earlier this year during his visit to apex court’s Peshawar registry after the parents of the martyrs demanded a judicial inquiry.
The parents, then, highlighted that there were intelligence reports about a possible attack on an army-run school in Peshawar, adding that no action was taken to prevent the attack.
The APS Martyrs Forum in an application also requested the court to push the government to punish those involved in the attack on the school and those who failed to protect the children.
On December 16, 2014, terrorists attacked the APS in Peshwar. It was one of the deadliest attack in Pakistan’s history.
Following it, the armed forces launched a grand operation against terrorist elements in Pakistan.
