COAS Qamar Bajwa felicitates caretaker PM Nasir-ul-Mulk

RAWALPINDI – Cheif of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Wednesday congratulated Justice (r) Nasir-ul-Mulk for holding the office of prime minister of Pakistan in a caretaker setup ahead of 2018 general elections.

The top military commander conveyed his best wishes to the interim PM and pledged full support for smooth polls next month.

The retired judge, who hails from Swat, sworn in as the caretaker premier on June 1. He was nominated as the caretaker PM by the Government and Opposition after a series of meetings.

Nasir-ul-Mulk is the seventh caretaker prime minister of Pakistan.

The South Asian country will hold elections for the Parliament and four provincial assemblies on July 25, according to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The ECP will continue to receive the nomination papers, in compliance with the approved format in the Election Act 2017, from June 4 till June 8.

The nomination papers will be scrutinised on June 14, while appeals against decisions by returning officers can be filed till June 19, as per ECP.

The appeal tribunal will wind up requests by June 26 and a day later, on June 27, candidates’ list would be displayed again.

The candidates will then have time until June 28 to withdraw their nomination papers, after which a new list — with election symbols — would be issued on June 29.
