PESHAWAR – Station House Officer (SHO) Ustarzai Nazar Hussain has been dismissed from service for conducting poor investigations into the murder case of NGO worker Hina Shahnawaz, said KP police in a statement.
Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat, Awal Khan dismissed the police official after he failed to properly investigate the murder case of Hina who was shot dead on February 6 reportedly for refusing a marriage proposal from her cousin.
The inquiry against Nazar Hussain started after IG KPK Salahuddin Mehsud suspended the same officer on charges of faulty and poor investigation and ordered a departmental inquiry against him.
The allegations were probed by a committee which submitted its report to the IGP in which all the charges against the SHO had been substantiated.
After receiving the report the IGP directed RPO Kohat to dismiss SHO Nazar Hussain from service with immediate effect, the statement added.
A board under the supervision of AIG has also been formulated which would review the whole investigation of the case and ensure provision of justice to the affected family.
Detailing the overall incident that led to dismissal of Nazar Hussain, District Police Officer Kohat Javed Iqbal told Dawn News that Hina’s sister Farheen disclosed that she had given the name of the main accused Mehmood Alam and his seven accomplices to the SHO, but SHO had made her sign an FIR that did not include names of seven co-accused Zulfiqar Shah, Mehran Ali, Moshim Ali, Moazim Ali, Hadam, Riaz Ali, Shah Alam in it.
27-year-old Hina Shahnawaz, was an M.Phil degree holder who was employed by an NGO. It is also being reported that her cousin had killed her because of her job.
