Hassan Nawaz denies receiving NAB s summons, says he can t be declared absconder

LONDON – Hasan Nawaz, son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Nawaz Sharif and a co-defender in the references filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB), said on Monday that the court could not declare him an absconder.

In a statement issued from London, hours after an accountability court declared him fugitive for not appearing in a references pending before the court, Hasan Nawaz said he had not received any NAB summons at his residential address in London where he has been living for the last 24 years.

“I am a British citizen and have never received the said summons according to British laws,” said Hassan as quoted by Geo News.

The younger Nawaz termed NAB’s actions an exercise “that is nothing more than political victimisation and an effort to make news headlines.”

He expressed that he has not committed any crime which could him make him an absconder and has never fled the country.

It bears mentioning that an accountability court on Monday, hearing the graft cases against the Sharif family, approved NAB’s plea to declare Hasan and Hussain Nawaz proclaimed offenders after both the brothers did not appear.

The accountability court is hearing a total of three corruption cases against the Sharif family filed by NAB in the light of the Supreme Court’s judgment in the Panama Papers case.

After declaring Hassan, Hussain fugitive, the judge separated the trial of Nawaz’s sons and asked Nawaz Sharif, Maryam and Captain (r) Safdar to show up in next hearing for indictment.

Nawaz Sharif, who was disqualified from office on July 28th in the Panama papers case for concealing his employment with Capital FZE, appeared before the accountability court last Monday.

After the appearance that stirred a controversy owing to the Rangers deployment outside the court, Nawaz Sharif stayed for a few days in the country and then headed to London where his wife is undergoing treatment for lymphoma.
