ISLAMABAD – In response to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s statement regarding Pakistan’s alleged efforts to hinder peace across the Durand line, the Foreign Office Spokesperson has stressed the need for closer cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and denounced the constant allegations of the Afghan government, which are based on inaccurate assumptions.
Expressing disappointment on the remarks of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani at the NATO Summit, the spokesperson said it is unfortunate that Afghan leaders continued to make hostile statements against Pakistan and blame the neighboring country for all its internal failures.
He reiterated that Pakistan has a genuine interest in peace in Afghanistan and would continue to make every effort to help bring peace to the country.
The spokesperson said that Pakistan also expected cooperation of the Afghan government in our indigenous fight against terrorism, in areas such as effective border management and removal of sanctuaries for anti-Pakistan terrorists on Afghan soil.
Earlier on Saturday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani blamed Pakistan for discriminating among good and bad terrorist, while speaking at a NATO summit.
He went on to say that all the neighboring countries of Afghanistan were returning favors to Kabul, except Pakistan, which he felt had “sabotaged [the] peace process in Afghanistan.”
