WASHINGTON – The United States hinting at “do more” has said that safe havens still exist in Pakistan for terrorists from where they carry out strikes on Afghanistan.
In a daily press briefing on Thursday, US State Department acting spokesperson Mark Toner said: “We’ve been very clear, while we understand that Pakistan has made efforts to confront terrorism and terrorist organizations on its own soil, that there are still what we call safe havens that exist for terrorist groups to operate from and carry strikes out on Afghanistan.”
To work constructively with Afghanistan for tackling the security concerns is in interest of Pakistan, the spokesperson further said.
Talking about dropping of ‘Mother Of All Bombs’ in Afghanistan by US, Toner said, it was launched targeting network of tunnels being used by terrorist organizations.
“I think it’s part of our ongoing efforts to take the fight to the Taliban, to take the fight to Daesh affiliates that are operating in that territory, al-Qaida affiliates that are operating on Afghan soil, and that’s going to continue,” The News quoted spokesperson as saying.
The United States dropped a non-nuclear bomb believed to be the largest ever in the country’s arsenal on an area of eastern Afghanistan on Thursday.
The apparent target of the air strike was a network of caves used by the militant Islamic State (IS). There has been no official confirmation of the President Trump’s involvement in the strike.
