Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif married actor Vicky Kaushal in December 2021, and the couple welcomed their son, Vihaan, on November 7, 2025.
Katrina remained away from the public eye for several months after giving birth. She made her first public appearance on August 26 when she attended the funeral of filmmaker Kuku Kohli alongside her husband.
Her appearance drew considerable attention on social media, with recent pictures and videos quickly going viral. While many users congratulated Katrina on becoming a mother and sent her good wishes, others mocked her over her post-pregnancy weight gain and physical changes.
Katrina and Vicky chose not to respond to the trolling. However, several fellow actors came to her defence and urged social media users to show greater sensitivity and respect towards women after childbirth.
Actress Shivaleeka Oberoi also defended Katrina and strongly criticised those who mocked her appearance, calling such attitudes “extremely ridiculous”.
Sharing a picture of Katrina, Shivaleeka said it was inappropriate to criticise the natural changes that women experience after becoming mothers.
“What has happened to people? This is motherhood,” Shivaleeka wrote, stressing that postpartum recovery is different for every woman and can involve bloating, fatigue and other physical changes.
She also urged people to stop promoting an unrealistic ideal of motherhood in which a woman’s body is expected to immediately return to its pre-pregnancy appearance.
Shivaleeka emphasised that a woman’s body does not need to return to its previous shape immediately after childbirth and that women should not be made to feel ashamed of the natural changes they experience during recovery.
Shivaleeka herself became a mother a few months ago, and her comments have therefore also been viewed as reflecting her own postpartum experience and support for women going through similar changes.
Katrina’s last film was Merry Christmas, in which she starred alongside Vijay Sethupathi. The film was released in 2024.
Since becoming a mother, Katrina has kept her professional commitments limited and has largely focused on her personal life and her newborn son.
