Gen. Qamar Bajwa says Pakistan supports Afghan-led peace process

RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa said Pakistan supports and looks forward to an Afghan-led and owned peace and reconciliation process.

The army chief held a meeting with chief of Central Command (CENTCOM), General Joseph in the General Headquarters (GHQ), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported.

With reference to recent terrorist incidents in Afghanistan, the Army chief said that blame games are detrimental to enduring peace and stability.

He added that Pakistan has conducted operations against terrorists of all “hue and colours” and there are no safe havens in Pakistan which are used against Afghanistan.

Bajwa also expressed his commitment to work in close coordination with Afghanistan and US-led Resolute Support Mission in the neighbouring country.

The chief of army staff also emphasised on border security and intelligence sharing mechanisms with Afghanistan.

On the occasion, General Joseph acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts to restore peace in the region and sacrifices rendered in war on terror. He also laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Monument during his visit.
