ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) will hear the appeals filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) challenging the verdicts of Accountability Court Islamabad in Al Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship References Investment corruption on 21st of this month.
According to the Radio Pakistan, a two-member bench of the High Court comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiani will take up the appeals.
The same bench will hear the appeal filed by former prime minister Nawaz Sharif challenging his sentence in Al Azizia Reference case on the same day.
In a verdict announced on in December last year, the accountability court sentenced Nawaz Sharif seven years in prison and fined Rs1.5 billion in Al-Azizia reference.
Nawaz was acquitted in the Flagship corruption reference. In the appeal against Nawaz’s acquittal NAB has stated that the court’s verdict should have been announced in light of the evidence presented.
In its appeal, NAB has argued that Nawaz was found guilty with all charges against him proven, and said that the seven-year jail sentence awarded to him was not enough demanding that it should be increased.

Nawaz has already filed an appeal in IHC against the verdict and also submitted a petition seeking suspension of the sentence.
On Monday, the Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed NAB’s appeal against the suspension of the Sharif family’s sentences in the Avenfield reference.
A five-member bench led by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar maintained IHC’s verdict ordering the suspension of prison sentences awarded to Nawaz and his daughter Maryam in the corruption reference.
