Record tampering : Court grants pre-arrest bail to SECP chief Zafar Hijazi

ISLAMABAD – A lower court approved Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi’s pre-arrest bail application, here on Monday.

Hijazi has been granted five-day bail against two surety bonds worth Rs250,000 each by special judge central Tahir Mehmood.

Earlier, on July 13, Zafar Hijazi was granted a transit bail till Monday (today)by the IHC bench, headed by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani.

Hijazi had filed for a pre-arrest bail as per Section 498 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Pakistan. The SECP chief’s counsel, Sheikh Ansar, cited medical grounds as the basis for the request.

Hijazi has been under the radar ever since the six-member Joint Investigation Team disclosed before the supreme court that SECP was tampering with the record pertaining to Chaudhry Sugar Mills of ruling Sharif family.
