At least 150 killed, hundreds missing after Idai storm hits Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi
HARARE, MAPUTO, LILONGWE – At least 150 people have been killed while hundreds of others are missing in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, as the tropical storm Idai hit these countries, the Radio Pakistan reported.

According to United Nations (UN) officials, Idai has affected more than 1.5 million people in the three southern African countries.

The spokesman of the World Food Program Hervé Verhoosel said tens of thousands of people have been displaced and homes, roads, bridges and crops have been washed away by the storm.

At least 24 people have died in south eastern Zimbabwe by a tropical storm Idai.

The information ministry said in Harare today that the Cyclone Idai, which brought floodwater and destruction to areas of Mozambique and Malawi, hit Zimbabwe as homes and bridges were swept away, cutting off power and communications.

Chimanimani, which borders Mozambique, has been worst affected, with the storm causing floods as well as destroying crops.

Meanwhile, In Mozambique, at least 19 people have died as Cyclone Idai hit one of the country's largest cities Beira.

According to local officials, heavy rains and cyclone have cut off more than half a million people in Beira.
