Triumphant Misbah receives rousing welcome as he returns home

LAHORE – Pakistan’s most successful Test captain Misbah ul Haq received a rousing welcome as he landed at Lahore airport on Wednesday after sealing the Test series against West Indies.

Misbah was accompanied by his wife and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) officials including Director Cricket Operations Haroon Rashid. A sizeable audience gathered at the arrivals lounge to catch a glimpse of the cricketer, whom they won’t be able to see in action again.

Rose petals were showered, bouquets were presented and emotional slogans were raised by cricket-crazed Lahoris as soon as the 42-year-old cricketer walked past the lounge.

Misbah and his family also seemed much happy to have witnessed such a welcome, a rare for any outgoing Pakistani cricketer.

“It’s an honour for me, I’m grateful to the nation for all their prayers and support” Misbah expressed his gratitude to the cheering crowd.

“I am happy with my performance. Winning in the West Indies will be something I will always remember,” the former test captain said as he spoke to newsmen at the airport.

“The credit for this accomplishment goes to the Pakistan Cricket Board, the players’ families, and the whole team,” he added.

Regarding the latest triumph in victory, Misbah said, “We have accomplished a feat many teams across the world only dream of.”

“These sort of victories will help bring fresh talent into the spotlight. It is crucial that we keep succeeding like this,” the recently retired cricketer noted.

When asked about his future plans, the ecstatic cricketer expressed that he had many options and so he would explore these in the future.

The Pakistani cricket team overpowered West Indians in test series by 2-1 after having displayed finest cricketing skills in ODI and T20 series.

Much to the satisfaction of cricket fans, Pakistan clinched ODI as well as T20 series against West Indies.

As the West Indian tour came to an end, Misbah and Younis Khan signed off leaving social media fans in perpetual appreciation for them.

A Twitter trend #Misyou referring to the cricketing duo garnered a large number of tweets praising both the cricketers who remained part and parcel of Pakistani Test team.
