MULTAN (Web Desk) – An enraged mob killed a mentally challenged woman suspecting her to be a child abductor in Multan, media reports said on Friday.
According to details, the woman was passing by a child in Multan when a group of people thought that she was a kidnapper. At which, the people present on the site started beating her and eventually she died.
Later, the police officials revealed that the killed woman was actually mentally ill. She was found to be a resident of the Basti Malook area of the city.
The number of such incidents has considerably increased during the recent weeks, as the media reports suggested that hundreds of children were abducted by organised groups in different cities of Punjab.
In 2015, there were more than 1,200 kidnappings reported in Punjab. The figures are just as alarming for 2016. Until now 767 children have been kidnapped from Punjab mostly from Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Bahawalnagar.
The number of unreported cases, however, is believed to be much higher as families of the victims tend to avoid taking help from law enforcement agencies.
