Nawaz said, “I never knew whether the deceased police officer ever existed, never talked to him on phone or live, never met him, never questioned about his work”.

The police officer added that the dead policemen, identified as ASI Imtiaz, never visited him for getting leave or transfer, adding that he committed suicide owing to his personnel issues.

The SP alleged that he was framed in the case for refusing help to a notorious journalist of a private news channel. He wrote the journalist “called me a day before this suicide incident and asked me to help his tout recover the money (loan) from some accused. On saying no initiated a watsap campaign and that culminated into print and electronic media campaign”.

On July 17, local media reported that ASI Imtiaz allegedly committed suicide out of frustration at harsh attitude of his seniors.

ASI Imtiaz, who served as an investigations officer in Baghbanpura area, reportedly shot himself following his suspension for requesting to go on leave.

He was reportedly admonished by the Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Civil Lines, the Express Tribune quoted the cop’s colleagues as saying.
