ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan came out in support of Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is embroiled in a controversy after attending his oath-taking ceremony and hugging  Pakistan's Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.

Khan said in a tweeter post that those who were criticising the Indian Punjab minister were doing a great disservice to peace in the subcontinent.

Sidhu had attended the oath-taking event of his friend Imran Khan in Pakistan on August 18. He was slammed by the Opposition and even earned the displeasure of his own Chief Minister Amarinder Singh over his decision to visit Pakistan

Sidhu, in a press conference, said his visit to Pakistan was not “political” but just on a “warm invitation from a friend”.

Imran Khan on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to longtime friend Navjot Singh Sidhu for attending PM Khan’s inauguration on a special invitation.
