STAMFORD, USA (Web Desk) – World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) superstar Roman Reigns was suspended on Tuesday for violating the company’s drug policy.
The company announced that Reigns, whose real name is Joseph Anoa’i, would be suspended for 30 days effective immediately for his first violation of the WWE’s talent wellness policy.
WWE’s policy typically means that those who fail the wellness test once are suspended for 30 days, second-time offenders are suspended for 60 days, and third-time offenders are terminated for a complete year. The Wellness Policy was put into place in February 2006, after the drug-related death of wrestler Eddie Guerrero.
The wrestling giant Roman Reigns is a three-time WWE world heavyweight champion, a one-time WWE tag-team champion and the 2015 Royal Rumble winner. His suspension will end on July 21.
This is not the first time a wrestler has breached the company’s wellness policy. In April, the company suspended Raymond Leppan (Adam Rose) and Ryan Parmeter (Konnor) for 60 days each for their second violations of the policy.
After announcement of the suspensions, Roman Reigns took to twitter to apologize.
