LAHORE – A sessions court in Lahore barred police on Saturday from arresting Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader, retired Capt Mohammad Safdar after accepting his application for pre-arrest bail.
Additional Sessions Judge Tajammul Shahzad Chaudhry approved Safdar’s interim pre-arrest bail against a surety bond of Rs50,000 besides directing him to appear at each hearing of the case and join the police investigation as and when required.
Safdar, the husband of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, was booked on Wednesday along with 14 party loyalists for hurling threats at policemen during the court appearance of party leaders; they were booked under Sections 186, 147, 149 and 353 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
According to the FIR, some 15 PML-N workers, including Safdar, hurled threats at policemen and interfered in their official work as Maryam and Hamza Shahbaz turned up before the court.
It stated that Safdar snatched a baton from a policeman and tried to attack him with it.
Safdar had filed an application for pre-arrest bail in the sessions court on Thursday and contended that the FIR against him and other party workers had been lodged “with mala fide intention and ulterior motive”.
The hearing of the case was adjourned until Septemeber 7 and the court sought a report of the case against Safdar from Islampura police station.
