KARACHI – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Karachi’s Disciplinary Committee on Saturday imposed a fine of Rs500,000 on its Sindh MPA Imran Ali Shah for beating up a motorist in broad daylight.
Party’s provincial leader Firdaus Shamim Naqvi addressing a press conference on Saturday said that Shah will donate fine money to the Edhi Homes Orphanage Centres and also provide free medical treatment to 20 orthopaedic patients recommended by Edhi Trust.
Naqvi further said that the party had a no-tolerance policy on violence and Imran can be dismissed from the party if we receive complaints against him in future.
A video of Imran shah violently slapping a citizen Dawood Chauhan near Karachi’s National Stadium Road went viral on social and mainstream media.

Following the incident, Shah maintained that he had beat the motorist for trying to cross his vehicle. In the video, however, it is clearly visible that the MPA’s guards also abused the citizen.
“The inquiry was conducted by Rana Zaki. MPA Imran Shah admitted his fault before the party. The disciplinary committee took the decision after taking into account all facts,” Naqvi said.
The PTI member, who was elected from the metropolis’ North Nazimabad area, reasoned that he “shoved” the citizen as the latter was verbally abusing him.

PTI had taken notice of the incident prompting Shah to post a video in which he sought an open apology for “hurting anyone’s feelings”, and insisting that he had only “pushed” Chauhan, even though the clip circulating on the internet had shown him raising his hand and hitting the man multiple times.
Shah had also visited the victim to apologise in person.
Shah had on Monday also sought a pardon from the Supreme Court. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had earlier taken Suo moto notice of the incident and required Shah to furnish his reply within three days.

In his reply, Mr Shah claimed that he had no intention to assault or use criminal force against anyone and that in the manner he acted on that day was to exercise the right of self-defence.
