One dead as 11-storey building catches fire in Karachi

KARACHI (Staff Report) – At least one person was pronounced as dead when an 11-storey building in the Clifton area of Karachi caught fire on Sunday morning.

According to fire brigade officials, they were informed about the massive fire at around 4:30 am, after which four fire tenders were sent to the location. However, other fire vehicles were called in after afterwards.

Power supply in the area was suspended as a result of the fire.

Electricity supply was also suspended in the area during the rescue operation, which was completed within four hours of the rescue services’ arrival.

As many as 12 people including women and children were rescued from the building. Some of them were brought out on stretchers and shifted to hospital.

Sindh Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro also arrived and reviewed the rescue operations.

This is the fourth such incident in Karachi in the last three days. Earlier, two factories and a rice storehouse had caught fire on Friday.
