LAHORE (Web Desk) – Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers ever, disappointed his fans by missing the first spot-kick in the shootout that decided the Copa America final vs Argentina on Monday.
Messi, who has never won a major trophy for Argentina, once again failed to end his country’s trophy drought in a fourth major final in nine years.

After Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero saved Arturo Vidal’s first shot of the penalty shootout, Argentine fans erupted with joy.
Messi stepped up to take the first shot. He struck the ball with his left foot, but it sailed well over the crossbar.
It was the first time Messi had missed in a penalty shootout during his career, according to the game broadcast.
