Govt, opposition face off over alleged secret talks with Israel

ISLAMABAD – The latest controversy about the arrival of a mysterious plane in Pakistan allegedly from Israel – a state not recognized by Islamabad – has not only grabbed the attention of the social media users but it also caused exchange of heated words between the government and opposition.

An Israeli journalist earlier this week sparked a debate on social media when he tweeted that an aircraft flew from Tel Aviv to Islamabad.

The story took over social media, while local and international media also covered it amid questions over suspected talks between Islamabad and Tel Aviv.

Amid all that, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ahsan Iqbal, who was also a former interior minister, shared a story published by the BBC pertaining to the mysterious plane and asked the PTI-led government to give an explanation for it.

Responding to Ahsan Iqbal’s tweet, Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry clarified that the government would neither engage in secret talks with India nor Israel.

“The fact is that Imran Khan is not Nawaz Sharif and there is no fake Aristotles in his cabinet like you. We will neither hold any secret dialogue with Modi nor Israel,” the minister said.

“If you were so worried about Pakistan as you pretend to be, we wouldn’t be in this situation,” the minister said adding that Pakistan is in safe hands.

Following Chaudhry’s response, Iqbal tweeted stating, “information minister’s fiery response over just demanding an explanation shows there is something dubious”.
