KARACHI – Former national cricketer and coach of the Women cricket team and Sui Northern Basit Ali slapped former international cricketer Mahmood Hamid during a domestic cricket tournament on Thursday.
“The incident occurred during a one-day cricket tournament underway at the National Stadium,” reported Geo News on Thursday.
Earlier this week, Mahmood Hamid had criticised the performances of the Pakistan international women cricket team and the Under-19 team. Basit Ali is also the selector of the U-19 team.
“Former Test cricketer Basit Ali, had threatened his critics with strong words in an interview on Wednesday,” the TV report added.
“I am giving you all the final ultimatum,” Basit had warned his opponents during a talk with media on the sidelines of the women team’s training camp in Karachi.
After the untoward incident, a one-to-one meeting was held between Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Shahryar Khan and Hamid Mehmood in National Cricket Stadium Karachi.
PCB Chairman termed the incident as unfortunate and asked for stern action to be taken against the Basit Ali.
“It’s too much and Basit should have refrained from slapping,” Khan added.
