MUZAFFARGARH (Staff Report) – 16 militants, including chief of a banned outfit have been killed in an alleged police encounter, early morning in Muzaffargarh.
Chief of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ), Malik Ishaq and his two sons Usman and Haq Nawaz were among those killed in the suspected encounter. Another important member of LeJ, Ghulam Rasool and his two sons were also killed.
Six police personnel of the anti-terrorism force (ATC) were injured in the exchange of fire, but they are in a stable condition.
Police said Malik Ishaq was arrested six days back for targeted killings of eight people. Ishaq along with six accused were taken to Muzaffargarh for identification of weapons, where his accomplices tried to get them released. An exchange of fire took place, which killed the detainees and their aides.
Bodies of the dead were shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Muzaffargarh, said police.
