Bangladesh makes arrests over burglary at Pakistani High Commission in Dhaka

DHAKA – Bangladesh police have arrested six people with suspected ties to a burglary at the Pakistan High Commission last week.

Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner Mostak Hossain detailed that the arrests were made separately on Tuesday.

Police identified the detained as Md Mostafa, 35, Dulal Mia, 34, Md Sajal alias Kalu, 22, Jahangir Alam, 45, Nimai Babu, 42, and 35-year-old Sekul Islam.

The developments came after Pakistan lodged a strong protest over the burglary at its high commission in Dhaka.

In a statement posted on its website on Tuesday, Pakistan’s foreign office said unknown burglars broke into the consular section of its high commission in Dhaka and got away with computers.

‘The matter was immediately reported to Bangladesh’s police and an FIR was lodged. Bangladesh Foreign office was also informed and strengthened security was requested,’ the foreign office said.

“It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to provide full security to the Pakistan High Commission premises,” the spokesman Dr Faisal added.

Pakistan also summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan in Islamabad to hand over a protest note.
