NAB arrests Saad, Salman Rafique in housing scheme case

LAHORE – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Khawaja Saad Rafique along with his brother Salman Rafique on Tuesday.

The duo appeared before the Lahore High Court to seek extension in the interim bails, however, the plea was rejected by the court.

Following the dismissal of the request, a NAB team took the duo in custody.

A NAB spokesperson said the PML-N leaders were arrested after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected their request for an extension in their pre-arrest bail in the case pertaining to the housing society scam.

“The court’s decision confirmed substantive evidence against NAB suspects,” the spokesperson added.

The social media team of former railways minister also fired a defiant tweet after the detention.

Scores of Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz loyalists gathered outside the premises of the court after the NAB team arrested the politicians.

The politicians would be relocated to the Lahore bureau of the anti-graft body and a remand would be sought from the NAB court within 24 hours.

The Khawaja brothers are facing an investigation by the accountability watchdog in the Paragon Housing society scam.

The NAB launched an investigation into the alleged embezzlement and corruption in housing society when the case related to Asiana scheme was being probed.

It had emerged during the probe that a dubious deal for the exchange of land over 40 kanal was also made between Ashiana and Paragon.

In the Paragon scam case, the anti-corruption watchdog had already arrested Qaiser Amin Butt, a close aide of the former railways minister.
