LAHORE – On 8th March, Friday (yesterday), the world celebrated the ‘International Women’s Day’ with full enthusiasm and valor. People shared their thoughts and concerns for women in their speeches, posts and through attending the Aurat March.
Pakistan also celebrated the Women day and many people thoroughly participated in the activities of the day. The Army officials , political leaders, celebrities talked about women empowerment and paid tribute to them but the leaders of countrywide religious-political parties have not issued any message on International Women’s Day, indicating their tough stand over the status of women in Pakistani society.
However, Pakistan Awami Tehreek is the only party which came forward to encourage the women’s struggle for their rights in the country.
PAT Chairman Dr. Tahir Ul Qadri shared that women had always proved their abilities in all walks of life. It is the foremost responsibility of the state, he said, to educate its women because this leads to a progressive and educated society. By protecting their rights, stated Qadri, Islam has empowered women 14 centuries before. No society can thorough progress without women participation, he added.

“It is the responsibility of the state to curtail prejudice and all kinds of exploitations that exist against women in society,” said Qadri.
During the conference with Minhaj Ul Quran and PAT women league office bearers on international women’s day, Tahir-ul-Qadri stated that Islam gave a comprehensive charter of rights and duties of women when there was no concept of women rights. He said Islam elevated status of women through economic security; gave a share in inheritance; protected rights as a wife, sister, and daughter; and checked exploitation, excesses, and torture.

He also emphasized without the participation of women, no society can achieve goals of development, and it is the prime duty of the state to root out exploitative mindset from society against women. He said in developing and backward societies, women face various kinds of restrictions in their economic, social and political activities, and these restrictions have nothing to do with Islam. He said Idara Minhaj Ul Quran, during the past 38 years, has set up hundreds of institutions for education and training of women, and these institutions are imparting education according to needs of the modern age.
