KARACHI (Staff Report) – Renowned Urdu novelist, playwright and drama writer Fatima Surayya Bajia passed away in Karachi on Wednesday after protracted illness.
She was born on 1 September 1930 in Hyderabad, India.
She is a well-known personality in social welfare, literary radio, TV and stage. She has been writing for Islamabad and Lahore PTV centres since beginning of the channel.
She wrote her first long play Mehman. She contributed for the literary programmes like Auraaq, and beauty care programmes under the title Aaraish-e-Khaam-e-Kakal and she also produced some children programmes.
She had been awarded various awards at home and abroad including Japan’s highest civil award in recognition of her good work. She also remained Advisor to the Sindh chief minister.
One of ten children, her other siblings comprise: Anwar Maqsood, Zehra Nigah, Zubaida Tariq and Mrs Kazmi.
She produced great for Women programs; above all she was originator of Khwateen key Meilaad. Her popular drama serials are Shama, Afshaan, Aroosa, Zeenat, Ghar aik Nagar, Faraz Aik Karz and many more.
