Indian forces kill one protester in Kashmir, several others injured

SRI NAGAR (Web Desk) – Indian security forces has killed one protester and left several others injured on Saturday when they opened fire at a rally condemning the detention and house arrest of freedom leaders in Indian held Kashmir.

People took to the streets in Narbal area of Badgam against the arrest of senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt, and recent killing of two youth by Indian troops in Tral. The troops opened fire on the protesters, killing one youth and injuring several others.

Meanwhile, the city is completely shut down, to protest against Indian state terrorism in the territory.

Call for the shut-down has been given by the veteran Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani, to register protest against the killing of civilians by the troops in Tral town and illegal arrest of senior Hurriyet leader, Masarrat Aalam Butt.

Forces have also arrested Mirwaiz Umar Farooq which sparked another round of protests in disturbed parts of Kashmir.

Earlier at least 14 Kashmiri activists were severely injured when Indian army used artillery to disperse the protesters in Sri Nagar on Friday.

The recent disturbance prevailed after a rally under Masarrat Alam Butt chanted anti-India  slogans while waving Pakistani flags to welcome Hurriyet leader Syed Ali Gilani.
