ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supremo Imran Khan on Monday to play a role in quashing the atmosphere of mistrust of the country’s judiciary.
Justice Nisar during the hearing of a case related to encroachments in Bani Gala area, where Imran Khan resides said that the PTI chief carried huge responsibility owing to his position in the country.
“Being a leader of the nation you carry a major responsibility. You are not an individual… Your one call may cause chaos or stability in the country,” Justice Nisar said to Imran Khan.
Saqib Nisar who took a suo-moto notice soon after the PTI supremo wrote a letter to him regarding the illegal settlements and land mafia in Bani Gala also remarked that the people approach courts as they placed their trust in the justice system.
“However, the atmosphere of mistrust must end,” he observed.
Chief Justice also allowed PTI chief not to appear before the three-member bench owing to his time-strapped schedule.
“Since you are a busy person, therefore, you don’t need to appear in court every day rather you should send a legal team which could guide the court,” said Saqib Nisar who was not a member of the five-judge bench that announced Panama verdict.

Afterwards, Imran Khan in a brief conversation with newsmen lauded CJP for taking up his case. He also expressed his gratitude to the top court’s five-judge bench, which heard the Panama case and termed their decision ‘historic’.
The PTI chief maintained that his party played its role in the restoration of independent judiciary in the country and it would still stand by the supreme court over the Panama case verdict.
On Thursday, the SC ordered the formation of a Joint Investigation team comprising members of premium intelligence agencies and other state institutions to probe the money trail of ruling Sharif family. Contrary to expectations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the apex court did not disqualify the premier for now and sought an inquiry by the JIT to help decide the political fate of Nawaz Sharif.
