Woman martyred in IOK as state oppression continues

SRINAGAR – In a fresh act of state terrorism, Indian troops martyred a woman during a violent crackdown operation in Indian occupied Kashmir, here on Saturday.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the woman identified as Tahira Begum was martyred in Dialgam area of the district after the troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the demonstrators who were protesting against the operation.

Eyewitness told newsmen that Tahira Begum was hit by a bullet after which she was immediately shifted to District Hospital, Islamabad, but she succumbed to her wounds.

Several people have also been injured, some of them critically, in the troops’ action while protests in the area are going on.

Meanwhile, the authorities have blocked mobile internet services in the district and imposed curfew-like-restrictions in Dialgam.

The authorities have also announced closure of educational institutions in the district to prevent students from staging demonstrations against the killing of the woman.

It bears mentioning that the fresh spree of violence has been launched after the martyrdom of Hizbul commander Sabzar Bhatt, the successor of Burhan Wani, who was killed by security forces in the village of Bamdoora in July last year.

After the killing of Burhan Wani, as many as 100 Kashmirias lost their lives amid protests calling upon Modi administration to restore peace in the restive region and provide them with the right to self determination.
