Nomination of Khaqan Abbasi for interim PM challenged in court

ISLAMABAD – The nomination of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi as a candidate of Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) for the next prime minister of Pakistan has been challenged in the Supreme Court, local media reported.

It is notable that Abbasi emerged as a strong candidate of ruling party after the apex court disqualified Nawaz Sharif for not disclosing his employment with FZE Capital company in UAE.

The petitioner has submitted a plea against the selection of Abbasi to Supreme Court Lahore Registry taking the stance that cases are registered in Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and National Accountability Bureau against the PML-N’s candidate.

The applicant added that nomination of an accused person is illegal; therefore, the nomination of Shahid Khaqan Abbasi should be declared null and void.

It may be mentioned here that nomination for the seat of prime minister will be submitted to National Assembly Secretariat today.

The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has chosen Sheikh Rashid as a candidate for next prime minister.
