China, Pakistan ink agreement for cooperation in uranium exploration

BEIJING – China and Pakistan have signed an agreement for technical cooperation in the exploration and development of uranium resources, local media reported.

China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) inked the agreement with Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission on Monday. China signed the same kind of pact with Saudi Arabia earlier this year.

According to World Nuclear News, “Under the new agreement, China’s uranium industry will fully employ its technological advantages, its nuclear research institutes, nuclear chemistry industry, aerial remote sensing centre and other units in its cooperation with Pakistan”.

CNNC has already exported four 300 MWe reactors to Pakistan, besides constructing two 1000 MWe units. The organisation said it is actively working with Pakistan in uranium resources, application of nuclear technology and the training of workers.
