ISLAMABAD – Playing down the stiff ties between embattled Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz and the military establishment, PML-N media cell chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed said the party will have no issue in working with the army leadership if it assumes office after July 25 vote.
Sayed, who heads the newly-established cell, cited the recent visit of party president Shahbaz Sharif to North Waziristan and said the PML-N chief had a very good interaction with the army officials there in a congenial atmosphere.
Taking a different line than his peers, Sayed negated the perception that ‘non-elected forces’ could change the election scene altogether.
He also highlighted that in the 1988 poll the IJI (Islami Jamhoori Ittehad) supported by these forces had failed to stop Benazir Bhutto from securing majority in the parliament and forming the government.
He expressed that the election mechanics depends on the mood of voters on the voting day and added that by the grace of God, the voters are and will be with PML-N.
‘Just look at the public meetings being addressed by the Sharifs. They’re being warmly welcomed wherever they go.’ said the Senator.
The politician also rejected the speculations that the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would be sent behind bars in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references.
Mr Hussain said that amongst the three candidates running for the office of prime minister in the July polls, Shehbaz Sharif enjoyed upper hand due to track record and matchless performance.
He detailed that the PML-N would formally start its election campaign from July 1 and that it would be neat and clean, devoid of any personal attacks, Dawn News reported.
