Pakistani politician grabs public attention with unique election campaign and ‘filthy photos’

KARACHI – As the election temperature is rising in Pakistan ahead of the general polls, a Karachi-based politician has adopted a different approach to highlight city’s long-standing issues related cleanliness and sanitation during the election campaign.

Ayaz Memom Motiwala, an independent candidate from the party named ‘Aam Admi Pakistan’, has been campaigning around the city sewage by clicking photos inside the drains and sitting on the garbage heap.

He is contesting elections from three constituencies NA-243, PS-111 and PS-110.

In a video shared by Motiwala on June 30, he can be seen lying down in dirty water with the flag of Pakistan.

While some people termed his moves as “daring” and “dabang”, several others asked him to stop the drama.

Earlier this year, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar ahd expressed his displeasure over the heaps of garbage that have become a regular feature of Karachi’s cityscape and ordered the relevant authorities to remove it.

“I want a neat and clean Karachi within a week,” CJ Nisar had ordered while hearing a citizen’s rights case concerning Sindh’s water and sewerage problems in the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry
