ISLAMABAD – An accountability court has issued non-bailable warrants for former prime minister Shaukat Aziz in case pertaining to misuse of power during his tenure.
Accountability court Judge Arshad Malik issued the warrants against the former premier after he failed to appear in the court despite repeated summons.
Former Sindh chief minister Liaquat Jatoi, ex-federal secretary Ismail Qureshi, former Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) chairman retired Air Marshal Shahid Hamid, and former AEDB secretary Brig Dr Nasim Akhtar Khan have also been made accused in the case filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The court also expressed anger over the absence of the other suspects in the case and later adjourned the case until November 1.
Aziz, who served as the prime minister during 2004-2007 when former army chief General Pervez Musharraf was president of the country, is currently living in the United States.
The reference against Aziz and others was filed for illegally appointing Basharat Hassan Bashir as a consultant for the AEDB by violating the rules. The move reportedly incurred losses around Rs21 million.
The anti-graft buster has found the former prime minister guilty in the investigations.
