One of Pakistan s most wanted militants killed in Shikarpur shootout

KARACHI – Police in southeastern Pakistani Sindh province on Friday announced the encounter of two wanted militants, who were on the run for nearly a decade.

Hafeez Brohi, who had been involved in nearly a dozen attacks mainly against Shia Muslims in Karachi and other parts of Sindh, also masterminded a suicide attack at Lal Shahbaz Qalandar shrine in Sehwan Sharif. At least 90 people were killed and over 300 injured in the 2017 suicide bombing.

Brohi and his close aide Abdullah Brohi, who was the Amer (commander) of so-called ‘Islamic State’ terrorist group in Sindh and also the Naib Amer (second-in-command) in Balochistan, were challenged by security agencies after receiving information of the wanted militant’s return to his hometown of Shikarpur from Afghanistan. Both suffered fatal injuries in the ensuing shootout.

Police recovered four hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs and two TT Pistols from their possession.

Both the militants were involved in plotting and carrying out many suicide attacks, remote control blasts and IDE blasts in Sindh and Balochistan.

They were found involved in carrying out two suicide attacks on former MNA Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jatoi, who survived, remote control blast on Dargah Hajjan Shah Marri Sharif in which 12 innocent persons including Gadinasheen Syed Hajan Shah embraced martyrdom, two suicide blasts on Imambargahas of Shikarpur in which 75 innocent person were martyred and at least 100 persons sustained injuries, murder of Allama Shafqat Abbas Matuhari in Khanpur, carrying out suicide blast on mourners during Muharram ul Harram in Jacobabad in which at least two dozen persons were martyred and score of persons sustained injuries, blast of Masjid-ul-Harram of Quetta in which at least 20 persons were embraced martyrdom.

Besides, both the killed terrorists were involved in carrying out blast on Siraj Ahmed Raisani in which at least 150 persons were martyred and score of persons sustained profound injuries and also involved in committing attack on police requirement centre in Quetta in which a large number of police personnel embraced martyrdom and sustained injuries.

The provincial police chief has announced Rs2 million reward money for raiding police party, led by ASP Shikarpur Amjad Farooque.
