PIA pilot celebrates first flight at new Islamabad airport by waving national flag from cockpit

ISLAMABAD – The first commercial flight of Pakistan International Airlines carrying 150 passengers made its inaugural landing at the new  Islamabad airport on Tuesday.

The flight PK-300 touched down at Islamabad International Airport after Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi inaugurated it after years of delay.

A video shared by PIA on its official Twitter account showed flight Captain Farrukh Mirza waving the country’s flag from the cockpit window upon landing.

The PIA also shared pictures of the passengers and crew who became the part of this historic flight at the new airport.

The opening of the airport was earlier set to be held on April 20 but it was postponed due to some technical glitches and security issues.

The complete operation will commence from Thursday (May 3). All commercial and VIP flights from Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) will be shifted to the new airport.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Abbasi said that the incumbent government started various development projects and completed them.

He said that a project regarding extension of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, will also be launched, adding that air travel has become necessity these days.
