LAHORE – On Tuesday, an important breakthrough was recorded in the probe of the mysterious death of Rabia Naseer, a university student who was found dead in a famous hotel on Lahore’s Mall Road.

After looking at her phone records, police have identified the person she contacted last, who has also presented himself before police to record his statement.

Rabia, a student of Kinnaird College for Women University, was found critically injured with bullet wounds in a five-star hotel in Lahore.

On July 29, Rabia Naseer entered a hotel located at Lahore’s Mall Road. Nine minutes later, Rabia went to a washroom and the sound of gunshots caused the hotel’s staff to follow her.

Afterwards, she succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.

Police said Rabia had made at least three phone calls before she was shot dead. One of her last calls was made to Amir Khattak who is a government servant.

Amir Khattak himself appeared before the police to clear the air on the subject.  He stated that he was a friend of the Rabia and she desired to see him, but he had refused any meeting.

A 9 mm pistol, two magazines and 28 bullets, a cigarette packet and 92 rupees, as well as other items, were found to be in Rabia’s possession at the time of her death.

It is not clear how the pistol later found its way inside a dustbin if the girl’s death was a suicide.

Police have included four more people into its investigation of the incident.
