Imran Khan appeals to IHC for protection against military trials in May 9 cases

ISLAMABAD – Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan has moved Islamabad High Court (IHC), seeking protection from being transferred to military custody for trials related to May 9 incidents.

May 9 was one of the darkest days in the country’s history when the civil, military installations were attacked.

In his petition, Imran Khan’s lawyer Uzair Bhundari names Secretary of Law, Secretary of Interior, and the Federal Government as respondents. It also includes Inspector Generals of Islamabad and Punjab Police, the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the Inspector General of Prisons.

The petition asks court to prevent Khan from being placed in military custody and to ensure that his case remains under the jurisdiction of civilian courts. Khan is currently detained in Adiala Jail on various charges, including corruption and involvement in the May 9 riots.

Khan, 71, previously expressed concerns about being handed over to military authorities for trial in a military court.
