ISLAMABAD – Former Finance Minister Asad Umar rejected reports about his re-entry to the federal cabinet.
The PTI lawmaker reportedly called on Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday following which rumours swirled on social media that Umar was finally convinced to rejoin the cabinet.
However, the former finance minister rejected the rumours that he was going to join the cabinet, reported Geo News.
Although the PM Office has not officially revealed details about any meeting between Umar and premier Imran Khan, well-placed sources say both had a one-to-one meeting wherein it was discussed that Umar should take oath as a minister again.
Asad Umar stepped down as finance minister last month after he was asked to take charge of any ministry other than the ministry of finance; Abdul Hafeez Sheikh had replaced him.
Besides Imran Khan, Railways Minsiter Sheikh Rasheed is toiling hard to convince Umar make his way back to the cabinet. A few days earlier, the premier had branded Umar as ‘precious asset’ saying, he would rejoin the cabinet.
