ISLAMABAD – The Election Commission of Pakistan has issued directives to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to keep an eye on the political campaigns currently on-air on TV screens.
The development came after the elections regulator found the ad produced by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf abusive and in violation of clauses 47 and 46 of the code of conduct for political parties and candidates.
The electoral body has warned that such campaigns can further divide the political class in the country.
‘The election commission is under the constitutional obligation to provide level playing field to all political parties and contesting candidates to ensure free, fair and transparent elections,’ stated ECP in an official press release.
Let it be known that scores of political parties have splashed huge sums of money to promote their ideology on the TV screens in a bid to woo voters.
The Election Commission of Pakistan has warned that violation of the direction of commission by any person/authority concerned shall face legal action under the law.
