Imran Khans Pti Boycotts 26th Constitutional Amendment Votes In Parliament

ISLAMABAD—The constitutional amendment package for major judicial reforms is set to be presented in Parliament today, but Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf announced boycotting the ‘controversial Legislative Process’.

As the parliament vote remains in spotlight, Imran Khan’s party decided to withdraw from what it calls a “non-transparent” process regarding the 26th constitutional amendment as Parliament prepares for crucial votes.

PTI’s Political Committee announced total boycott of voting in both legislatures in a social media statement issued early in the morning. This decision comes in light of ongoing legislative delays linked to the proposed judicial reforms.

The 26th constitutional amendment bill is expected to be discussed in Parliament after several adjournments. The Senate will convene at 3 PM, while the National Assembly is set to meet at 6 PM. Additionally, the federal cabinet will gather at 3 PM to review the legislation.

Law Minister Attaullah Tarar noted that cabinet members would formulate their opinions on the legislation by 2:30 PM.

The Party of jailed PTI leader firmly opposed any party members in National Assembly or Senate who chose to participate in the voting process.

The political committee reiterated its commitment to maintaining party discipline. JUI-F leader Maulana Fazl is expected to respond to PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s request for a vote on the constitutional amendment today, following PTI’s appeal for additional time to finalize their response.

Law Minister mentioned that discussions on the constitutional amendments have been ongoing for the past four weeks. Some changes will be made to the key features of the draft approved by the special parliamentary committee.
