ISLAMABAD – The senior puisne judge of Islamabad High Court (IHC), Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui has requested Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Saqib Nisar to constitute a judicial commission to probe into his allegations against the country’s premier spy agency made during a controversial speech yesterday.
In a letter written to the CJP, Justice Siddiqui said that a commission be formed with a retired or serving judge as its head.
Justice Siddiqui made headlines on Saturday after he alleged that officers of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), were directly involved into manipulating the judicial affairs in the country.
He added in the letter that the judge should not be someone who took oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order, instated by former military dictator Pervez Musharraf in 2007.

The IHC judge stated in his letter that he stated facts about the prevailing situation without any fear.
He demanded that a commission be formed to “probe the authenticity and truthfulness of the presented facts” and that the proceedings be open so that lawyers, media and civil society can attend and report on the same.

Earlier on Sunday, the CJP took notice of Justice Siddiqui’s controversial speech at Rawalpindi Bar Association.
The apex court’s spokesman said in a statement that Justice Nisar has summoned the record of Justice Siddiqui’s speech from Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).

Pakistan’s military has also asked the Supreme Court to probe and take appropriate action against Justice Siddiqui over his serious allegations against the state institutions.
