Tax details of Shehbaz, Imran and others surfaced as election fever hits Pakistan

ISLAMABAD – After the asset details of the election candidates made headlines, now the facts about taxes paid by the aspirants have surfaced ahead of general polls in Pakistan.

Nomination forms received by the Election Commission of Pakistan revealed that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif paid Rs10.2 million in the wake of taxes.

The PTI chief, Imran Khan, paid Rs148,000, while the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani has not shared the details with the election body.

Senior politician Javed Hashmi, who has again joined the PML-N, deposited just Rs6,000 taxes, a website, sujag.org reported.

Similarly, outgoing prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Rs3.11 million, former PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf paid Rs207,000, former Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq Rs289,000 and former interior ministry Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan paid Rs1,589,000 as taxes.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, daughter of former PM Nawaz Sharif, paid just Rs41,000 and Hamza Shehbaz has declared his taxes as Rs8.2 million.

Former foreign minister Khawaja Asif, Rs3.96m, ex-Railways minister Khawaja Saad Rafique Rs5.2m, Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Rs703,000 and PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qurehsi paid Rs781,000 in terms of taxes.

The general elections are set to be held on July 25 as President Mamnoon Hussain has approved a summary sent by the ECP.
