Jimmy Emilio, Chuuk airport manager, said that passengers and crew were at the hospital undergoing checkups, adding that no serious injuries were reported.

Videos posted to social media show dozens of people in boats around the wreckage to save the passengers and crew members before the lane drowned.

According to local news reports, the plane was running according to schedule, stopping in Chuuk while on its way from Pohnpei, Micronesia to Port Moresby.

A survivor of the plane, Bill Jaynes, talking to media shortly after the crash said he believed that the aircraft hit a retaining wall and then landed into sea lagoon.

“It’s just surreal. I thought we landed hard until I looked over and saw a hole in the side of the plane and water was coming in, and I thought, well, this is not like the way it’s supposed to happen,” he said.

“We came in low, we came in very low. Unfortunately, the flight attendants panicked, and started yelling, and I was trying to be calm and help as best as I could,” Jaynes said.
