Pakistan to establish climate change consortium

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Climate Change Senator Mushahid Ullah Khan has said that the Ministry of Climate Change will support the establishment of a climate change consortium under Global Change Impact Study Centre.

He stated this while chairing a meeting on the working of the Global Change Impact Study Centre that was held at Ministry of Climate Change. The delegation headed by Tariq Banuri, Chief Executive, Global Change Impact Study Centre briefed the minister about future plans for the Global Change Impact Study Centre.

“Ministry of Climate Change will provide every support to make Global Change Impact Study Centre an internationally recognized research institution,” Mushahid Ullah assured. He said that the government would help in establishing a climate change consortium including universities and research institutions. He further emphasized that capacity building of experts working in the field of climate change would be enhanced.

The Federal Minister for Climate Change also appreciated the idea of initiating a Masters’ Program on climate change in the universities of Pakistan.

Earlier, experts from Global Change Impact Study Centre informed the minister that rain and weather patterns are changing and farmers must adjust according to new patterns. They also provided information about the research being conducted in Global Change Impact Study Centre.
