320 Pakistanis prisoners released from Malaysia land at Islamabad airport last night

ISLAMABAD – A flight carrying 320 Pakistanis arrived in Islamabad from Malaysia last night on Wednesday, the Radio Pakistan reported.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sayed Zulfikar Bukhari received them at the airport.

Talking to media after welcoming the repatriated Pakistanis, Zulfikar Bukhari said more prisoners were coming from various countries including Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) in coming days.

Zulfikar Bukhari said Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed every institution to resolve the issue of Pakistani Diaspora on a priority basis, terming them the precious asset of the country.

To a query, he said the government is increasing the number of Community Welfare Attaches abroad and has introduced the mechanism for monitoring their performance to ensure quick redressal of their grievances as well as smooth contact between government and expatriates who are working abroad for the welfare of the country.

There were over 320 Pakistani nationals in the Malaysian jails who had completed their sentence term and were unable to be repatriated as direct flights got suspended in the last week of February this year owing to the regional situation.

The prime minister issued special directives to arrange the return of these detainees so that they may be able to join their families on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
