MANCHESTER – Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said on Saturday that all Pakistanis were exuberantly contributing funds for the construction of dams with a passion which was appreciable.
In a brief interaction with private TV channel in Manchester, the top judge said he only witnessed similar passion during the 1965 war.
“From a four-year-old to an 84-year-old, the entire country is proactive. This is no ordinary situation and has now become a campaign,” he affirmed.
The chief justice continued that the entire nation was involved in the drive to collect funds for Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand dams.
Responding to a question regarding his announcement of starting an awareness campaign for family planning, the chief justice said a task force has been devised for family planning under Health Secretary Captain (retd) Zahid Saeed which comprised experts from all over Pakistan.
‘The task force has compiled a report and will hold a conference at the Supreme Court in mid-December (December 12 or 13),’ he said.
The chief justice announced that the conference would be attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan as well.
Justice Nisar further stressed that if population growth is not curbed then resources will shrink and the disparity will increase.
‘These are fundamental issues of the country,’ he observed.
Pakistan’s top judge is currently visiting the United Kingdom to raise funds for the construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Mohmand Dams and is asking the diaspora to contribute.
The top judge is actively searching for funds for the construction of dams as experts have warned that Pakistan would dry out after 2025 if adequate measures are not made.
The bank account bearing account No.03-593-299999-001-4 and IBN No. PK06SBPP0035932999990014 was opened after the CJP was briefed about the worsening water crisis in the country which could only be capped by the construction of new dams.
The CJP donated Rs 1 million for the dams fund and asked the countrymen to follow the suite. pakistan’s armed forces have contributed Rs 1 billion for the cause.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also urged the citizens to actively take part and donate to the fund so that the dams should be built to save future generations.
