ASF foils money laundering bids at Lahore Airport

LAHORE  – The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Saturday foiled money laundering bids by two passengers at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.

One passenger, a 31-year-old Chinese woman was taken into custody with $22,505 cash, according to a report in the local media.

The suspect was identified as Lizhen Wu, who was travelling to Bangkok through an international flight.

Another Bangkok-bound passenger, who is yet to be named, was detained at airport for carrying $39,100 cash.

In October, ASF had arrested a Chinese passenger for alleged currency smuggling at Lahore airport.

The foreign national, who is going to Bangkok via an international airline, was held during checking at the Allama Iqbal International Airport following the recovery of foreign currency worth Rs2.5 million.

According to revised rules of the State Bank of Pakistan regarding foreign exchange, a passenger can carry up to $10,000 or equivalent notes of another currency while going abroad.

The SBP also clarified that People travelling to or from Pakistan can carry Rs10,000 in cash as earlier the limit was Rs3,000.
