PML-N sticks to parliamentary committee probe, plays down NAB Chief resignation demand

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz reiterated a demand for formation of a parliamentary committee to investigate National Accountability Bureau Chairman, Justice (r) Javed Iqbal for his interaction with a columnist.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb stated on Saturday that the party’s stance over the issue was already announced by party President Shehbaz Sharif and Senior Vice President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi.

Malik Ahmed Khan Seeks NAB Chief Resignation

Earlier in the day, PML-N leader Malik Ahmed Khan demanded the resignation of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal and called for a case to be lodged against Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal.

In his press conference, Khan affirmed that accusations were made against Shehbaz Sharif without any evidence.

However, Marriyum Aurangzeb said Malik Ahmed Khan’s demand for NAB chairman’s resignation and arrest was his personal opinion.

Hamza Shehbaz Demands Fact-Finding Committee

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hamza Shehbaz Sharif said on Saturday that a fact-finding committee should be formed in the assembly.

Hamza decried that Shehbaz Sharif had been arrested in the Ashiana scandal but nothing came out of it adding that opposition parties will now be united on demanding a clarification from NAB chief.

The PML-N leader emphasized that facts needed to be presented before the people as the NAB chairman’s post was not a joke, rather a constitutional position.

NAB Chief’s Interaction With Javed Chaudhry

NAB Chief recently met renowned columnist Javed Chaudhry and revealed crucial details about the ongoing cases, stirring a storm in power corridors.

Justice (r) Javed Iqbal, as quoted by Javed Chaudhry, said that Pervaiz Khattak would also be arrested soon. As per the column, the NAB chief alleged that both Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif were ready to strike a deal with the anti-graft body but through a third party.

The accountability watchdog had later negated any ‘interview’ and had also dismissed a few sections of the column.
